I've been to Menya Hanabi many times and they remain consistent on being the go-to spot for Mazesoba around the area. Service (4/5): The inside seating is pretty small so service is typically efficient and good enough. Wait times can vary but usually there's a bit of a wait for both seating and for your food to arrive. The most I've waited was ~1 hour to get seated and you have to wait outside as there's no online way to secure your spot in line (you have to write your name on the waitlist). Seems like they take their time making the Mazesoba which is both a pro and con. It's consistent in taste but takes a while to come out. Ambiance (5/5): Casual ambiance and nothing fancy. I do like how the wall is decorated. Food (5/5): - Deluxe Nagoya Mazesoba (Spicy/Non-spicy) [$17.99]: Both the spicy and non spicy are great, the chashu is tender and the umami flavor when mixed together makes it one of my favorite dry noodles dishes. The egg adds a nice creamy texture to the dish. I would describe the heat level of their Spicy to be that of a medium, and I prefer that to the non-spicy (if you could handle spice). - Curry Nagoya Mazesoba [$15.49]: Only comes spicy but the curry flavor is adds depth to the already tasty Mazesoba. I like that the Curry doesn't overpower the taste of the savory Mazesoba flavor. - Original Nagoya Mazesoba (Non-spicy) [$14.49]: The original is great as well but my only knock is that the only protein it comes with is minced pork and poached egg, which isn't that much. Other than that, it tastes very similar to the Deluxe. Overall Menya Hanabi is perfect when craving umami dry noodles. I would say the price is a bit steep for mostly noodles but with the quality, taste and consistency of each dish - I don't mind paying for it.

Every time I come to this place I always have Mazesoba. After the first time trying it, I got addicted. The portion especially the meat was generous. If you like tangy taste, put a little bit of vinegar that comes with it. The taste is heaven! The host was friendly even she worked by herself. The ambience was comfortable as well. It was clean and cozy.

So it has been a while since I have been back to this place, and I can say the food is still really good. The only thing that is a bit frustrating is the waiting system. Me and my family (with kids) had to wait over an hour in order for us to get a seat. To be exact, hour and 15 min. I thought by this point they would have at least looked into some other ways to make it easier for customers to get in. I like that they have the whole party here to be seated, but if there is a yelp waitlist, or something that can even send a text message, this would be amazing. I saw so many people end up leaving, or not being able to get seated because they were missing a person or 2. With the system now you HAVE to wait outside, and listen for them to call your name. Maybe it is a marketing strategy, or perhaps it is just the system that they have set up. Regardless this review is no way to say this restaurant is not good or anything. The food is still really good, including the Chicken Appetizer we ordered. Since I don't live around here, I would have to try to strategize when to come here to eat. I hope the new location they are planning to open in Irvine will have this in consideration.

I probably come to Menya Hanabi once every 2 years now because I honestly just don't prefer it anymore. It's pretty heavy and there's not a lot of variety in options. With that being said, I came to grab lunch here with friends yesterday and I was delightfully surprised that they had a seasonal menu. I got the cream mentaiko mazesoba and it was very different! It's like a creamy mentaiko udon, but with the mazesoba noodles/toppings. It was just a tad on the heavy side, but I put some vinegar in which helped a lot. The wait was pretty long at noon on a Sunday, so come early!
